How to makea feature announcement video.
Show one new feature working in a 15-second video for your changelog and social posts, in six steps.
What you’ll build
A 15-second landscape feature video in four moments: what’s new, why it matters, the feature in action, and where to try it.
What you’ll use
- The new feature, ready to show
- An idea for how to open, and where people can find it
- Optional: a screen recording of the feature
Coming soon to Chrome - A video editor. This guide shows Dranic, which runs in Chrome or Edge on a computer
The storyboard
A short feature video usually follows this shape. Adjust it to fit your feature.
- 0–2 sWhat’s newMake it obvious at a glance that something changed, with a “New:” line or the feature itself on screen.
- 2–5 sWhy it mattersThe job it makes easier, in a few words.
- 5–12 sIn actionThe feature doing its job, shown rather than explained.
- 12–15 sTry itWhere to find it: in your app, on your changelog or at a link.
Plan the story
Pick one change, not a list. A feature video works when people can say what’s new after one watch.
Then decide how to open. A line that starts with “New:” works, and so does opening on the feature itself, mid-action. Either way, keep it quick: people decide in a second whether this change is for them.
Start from something close
Swapping your screens and words into a finished video is faster than starting from a blank timeline.
Say what’s new
Open on what changed, then say the job it makes easier. Your existing users already know the product, so get to the new part straight away.
Keep it in your own colours and type, so it reads as part of your product rather than a generic ad.
Show it working
Show the feature doing its job with content that looks real, not an empty state. Let the screen do the explaining, and add a few words only where they point at something people might miss.
Say where to try it
Finish on where to find the feature: in your app, on your changelog or at a link. One place is enough.
Export and post
Watch it through and cut anything that drags; a feature video should feel like one quick moment. Then post it on your changelog, X, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Free to try, no card needed.
