How to make a feature video
in four steps.

Step 1

Plan four moments

A feature video is a few bite-sized ideas, roughly in this shape: what’s new, why it matters, the feature working, and where to try it.

  1. What’s new0–2 s

One line that starts with “New:”, so people know at a glance.

  2. Why it matters2–5 s

The job it makes easier, in a few words.

  3. In action5–12 s

The feature working, one screen per Shot, each with one line of Text.

  4. Try it12–15 s

Where to find it: in your app, on your changelog or at a link.

  1. Step 2

    Show the feature working

Record the new feature once with the Dranic extension, or put its screens in a browser window or on a 3D phone. The camera follows each click.

  2. Step 3

    Keep the words short

Let the feature do the showing, with one short line per Shot to point at what to watch. Text animates by itself, and so does every cut, so there are no keyframes to set.

  3. Step 4

Post it where your users are

Export an MP4 up to 1440p at 60 fps for your changelog, X, LinkedIn and YouTube. Vertical video is coming soon.

How long should a feature announcement video be?

15 to 30 seconds is enough for most features: one change, shown working. If it takes longer to explain, it’s probably two features and two videos.

What goes in each moment?

  1. 0–2 sWhat’s new

One line that starts with “New:”, so people know at a glance.

  2. 2–5 sWhy it matters

The job it makes easier, in a few words.

  3. 5–12 sIn action

The feature working, one screen per Shot, each with one line of Text.

  4. 12–15 sTry it

Where to find it: in your app, on your changelog or at a link.
