How to make an app promo video
in four steps.

Step 1

Plan four moments

A good promo is a few bite-sized ideas, roughly in this shape: a hook, the problem, your key screens, and where to get your app.

  1. Hook0–3 s

Your most striking screen, a result, or one short line, so your viewer wants to see more.

  2. Problem3–5 s

What gets in your viewer’s way today, in a few words.

  3. Key screens5–12 s

Your app solving it, one screen per Shot, each with one line of Text.

  4. Call to action12–15 s

Your app’s name, its icon and where to get it.

  1. Step 2

Put each screen on a 3D phone

Use a Hero Shot for the hook: an art-directed 3D phone, lit and framed for you. Use Product Focus for the feature screens. A screenshot is all you need.

  2. Step 3

Add one line of Text to each Shot

Say one thing per Shot. Every Shot and every cut animates by itself, so there are no keyframes to set. Want a different move? Pick a direction for any cut.

  3. Step 4

Fit it to 15 or 30 seconds

Set each Shot’s length to match your plan, and the motion adjusts by itself. Export an MP4 up to 1440p at 60 fps for your site, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and Product Hunt.

How long should an app promo video be?

15 to 30 seconds is common for social posts and ads. A video on your own website can run a little longer, because the people watching it already chose to.

What goes in each moment?

  1. 0–3 sThe hook

Your most striking screen, a result, or one short line, so your viewer wants to see more.

  2. 3–5 sThe problem

What gets in your viewer’s way today, in a few words.

  3. 5–12 sTwo or three key screens

Your app solving it, one screen per Shot, each with one line of Text.

  4. 12–15 sThe call to action

Your app’s name, its icon and where to get it.

Can I use it as my App Store preview?

No. Apple allows only screen captures of your app in App Store previews. Use Dranic for your website, launch posts, ads and YouTube.
