How to makean app promo video.
Turn a few screenshots into a 15-second promo for your app’s website, launch posts and YouTube, in six steps.
What you’ll build
A 15-second landscape promo in four moments: a hook, the problem, your key screens on 3D phones, and a call to action. This one was made in Dranic.
What you’ll use
- Two or three screenshots of your app
- An idea for your hook, and your app’s name
- Optional: your app icon and a music track
- A video editor. This guide shows Dranic, which runs in Chrome or Edge on a computer
The storyboard
Most short promos follow roughly this shape. Use it as a starting point, not a rule.
- 0–3 sThe hookSomething that makes your viewer care: a short line, a striking first shot, or your app’s best moment.
- 3–5 sThe problemWhat gets in your viewer’s way today, in a few words.
- 5–12 sTwo or three key screensYour app solving it, one screen at a time, with a few words where they help.
- 12–15 sThe call to actionYour app’s name, its icon and where to get it.
Plan the story
Decide what to say before you open any tool; it’s the hard part. Start with the hook: the problem your app solves, what it lets people do, or a moment that shows it. It doesn’t have to be words.
Then pick the two or three screens that show it best, and let them do the explaining.
Start from something close
Swapping your screens and words into a finished video is faster than starting from a blank timeline.
Open on the hook
Give the hook the first moment on its own. It’s what people see before they decide to keep watching, so make it big, simple and unmistakably yours: your colours, your type, your look.
Put your screens on phones
A screen on a phone reads as an app at a glance. A flat screenshot doesn’t. Show one screen per moment, and add a few words only where they point at something.
Add the call to action
End on your app’s name, its icon and one place to get it, such as your website or the store.
Set the pace and export
Watch it through once without stopping and trim anything that drags. Keep the first moments especially quick; attention is thinnest at the start.
Export a landscape MP4 for your site, launch posts and YouTube.
